The Mountain West had 12 former football players
selected in the 2012 NFL Draft held April 26-28 at Radio City Music Hall
in New York City. Boise State defensive end Shea McClellin was the
first MW player selected, taken by the Chicago Bears with the 19th pick
in the first round. He was joined in the first round by fellow former
Bronco Doug Martin, who was selected 31st overall by the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers. It marked the first time since 2010 (TCU's Jerry Hughes)
that the Mountain West had a first round draftee. Overall, the league
has seven first round draft picks since the league's inception in 1999.
NFL Draft Notes from Around the Mountain West

This is the second NFL draft in Mountain West history that multiple
players have been selected in the first round (2000). It is also the
first time in league history that multiple players from the same MW team
have been selected in the first round.

The Mountain West has had at least 12 student-athletes selected in three
of the last four NFL drafts and seven times since the league's
inception in 1999.

Boise State tied for the fourth-most draft picks nationally, and is one
of 10 programs with at least six former player drafted (8, Alabama; 7,
Georgia, Oklahoma; 6, California, Iowa, Miami, Michigan State, South
Carolina, Wisconsin).

The six Broncos taken in the 2012 NFL Draft are the most by an MW
institution. It also ties the league record and is the most since the
2010 draft.

Boise State established a program record with six total selections in
the 2012 NFL Draft. The previous mark of four draftees was set in 2007.

Boise State's Shea McClellin was selected by the Chicago Bears at No. 19
overall in the first round, and Doug Martin was selected No. 31 by the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the second- and fourth-highest Broncos to be
drafted in school history, respectively. Martin and McClellin also give
Boise State four first-round draft selections since 2008. Ryan Clady was
selected at No. 12 by the Denver Broncos in 2008, and Kyle Wilson was
selected at No. 29 by the New York Jets in 2010.

Boise State's three selections in the first three rounds are the most in
school history, eclipsing the 2010 draft when Titus Young and Austin
Pettis were selected in the second and third rounds, respectively.

Boise State's Doug Martin became the first running back in Mountain West
history to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft when Tampa
Bay chose him with the 31st pick. It also marked the first time since
2009 (Gartrell Johnson, Colorado State - fourth round to San Diego) the
league had a running back chosen in the Draft.

San Diego State's four draft picks are the most for the program since
2008 when the Aztecs also had four players selected. This year's draft
also matches the most SDSU players taken in a single draft since 1983
when five Aztecs were selected.

This year's draft marks the fifth time in the last eight years SDSU has had multiple selections.

San Diego State's Ronnie Hillman was selected with the 67th overall pick
(third round) by the Denver Broncos, marking the earliest an Aztec
player has been taken since Matt McCoy went to Philadelphia with the
63rd pick (second round) in 2005. Hillman is the first SDSU running
back selected since Larry Ned in 2002 (sixth round, 197th pick by
Oakland) and it is the highest an Aztec running back has gone since
Marshall Faulk was taken second overall by Indianapolis in the 1994 NFL
Draft.

San Diego State's Jerome Long was chosen with the 11th selection in the
seventh round (218th overall) by the Kansas City Chiefs. Long is the
first Aztec defensive lineman to be selected in the NFL Draft since
LaRoi Glover in 1996 (fifth round to Oakland).

TCU had multiple defensive players taken in the NFL Draft for the fourth consecutive year.

At least one offensive lineman and one defensive back from the Mountain West have been selected in 11 of the last 12 NFL drafts.

The Mountain West did not have a wide receiver taken in the NFL Draft for the first time since 2007.

Nevada, who will officially become a member of the Mountain West on July
1, had a school-round four players selected in the 2012 NFL Draft,
surpassing the previous high of three draft picks (1998, 2011).

Fellow incoming members Fresno State and Hawai'i each had one selection
in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Bulldogs have had at least one selection
in each of the last 12 NFL Drafts, while at least one Warrior has been
picked in 10 of the last 12 drafts.
