Rutherford and Arndt combined for just over 1800 yards and 15 touchdowns in the air to go along with 483 yards on the ground and another 3 touchdowns. Juniors Kyle Doll and David Lewis will battle for the backup and 3rd string spots with a combined 14 catches and 2 touchdowns for the Bobcat offense. Brown, Goodwin, and Klemstein look to be further down the depth chart and needing seasoning on special teams rather than with the offense.

#?? Rodney Woodland WR 5-10 180 Jr. Detroit, Mich. Saddleback College--JUCO transfer.

The Bobcats return 7 wide receivers that made at least 1 catch in 2011 and should be one of the stronger areas of the Texas State offense in 2011. Juniors Cody Matthews (8 catches) and Isaiah Battle (27 tackles) lead the receiver corps and should be flanked by converted running back Tim Hawkins who made 4 catches to go along with 67 carries in 2011. Erickson (4 catches), Miller (2 catches), Gilmore (3 catches), Milburn (2 catches), and Amerson (1 catch) all contributed to the Bobcat offense last fall. The Bobcats have 8 other wide receivers that did not play in 2011 and look to make an impact in 2012.

Texas State returns three starters for the 2012 season in juniors Jordan Norfleet, Deshun Williams, and Blake McColloch who combined for 72 tackles including 15 tackles for loss. The fourth starter is currently a question mark as seniors Ward and Haywood as well as junior Clavell-Head will battle a large number of reserve defensive linemen who are ready to make their impact for the Bobcat defense. JUCO transfer Jaryl Mamea looks to have be one to watch for and could easily make a big impact for the Bobcats in 2012.

Seniors Joplo Bartu and Brian Lilly lead a group of linebackers that are looking to squeeze their way into a predominately nickel defense that Texas State is looking to run. Bartu made 51 tackles in 2011 with Lilly adding 52 for the Bobcat defense. Luna, Hamilton, Morrow, and the freshmen and JUCO transfers will battle to be in the rotation behind starters Bartu and Lilly.

Texas State looks to be hoarding defensive backs for 2012 with a staggering 28 secondary members on the roster. 11 of those 28 players have experience in 2011 with all 5 projected starters making at least 3 starts and three members making 10+ starts in 2011. Seniors Darryl Morris (62 tackles), Aaron Matthews (65 tackles) and Jason McLean (42 tackles) lead the group and contribute for nearly 170 tackles in 2011. Junior Xavier Daniels added 77 tackles and sophomore Darryl Morris made 62 tackles giving the secondary starters about 300 tackles for the Bobcats in 2011. Iwuji, Chase, Wiggins, Targun, Villiquette, and Benning all look to earn spots behind the starting 5 and make an impact for the Bobcats in 2012.

LS
#67 Kevin Long DS 6-0 220 Jr. Round Rock, Texas Stony Point HS--No stats in 2011.

Junior Kevin Long looks to be the long snapper for the Bobcats in 2012 after not playing in any games in 2011 as a sophomore. Long must be solid and accurate with his snaps to give his kickers and punters a chance to be successful in 2012.

K
#38 Will Johnson K 6-3 192 So. Bryan, Texas Rudder HS--12 games played. 13-24 field goals. Long of 53 yards. 1 blocked. 33-33 extra points. 63 kickoffs with 17 touchbacks. 5 tackles.
#32 Jonathan Velasco K 5-9 162 So. Portland, Texas Texas Lutheran--No stats in 2011.
#40 James McNeill K 5-10 205 So. College Station, Texas West Texas A&M--No stats in 2011.

Sophomore Will Johnson was thrust into a starting role as a freshman and struggled making field goals with a 54% field goal percentage. The shining light was his perfect accuracy at extra point attempts as well as a 27% touchback rate for kickoffs before the rules moving kicks up 5 yards. That number could jump 20-25% this fall with more experience and another year of seasoning.

P
#48 Jason Dann PK/P 6-0 175 So. Dallas, Texas Nebraska--No stats in 2011.

Sophomore Jason Dann is looking to be the punter for the Bobcats in 2012 after not seeing any action in the 2011 season. Dann must show that he is ready for the big stage in a similar manner to kicker Will Johnson. There is no current player with any college punting experience on the roster so everything boils down to Dann.

Overall, a transition of FCS to FBS is difficult for any squad. 2012 sees two common foes for the Bobcats from the 2011 season. Big 12 stalwart Texas Tech will visit Bobcat Stadium for a return match of a 2011 game that saw the Red Raiders win 50-10 over the Bobcats. FCS foe Stephen F Austin also travels to San Marco to play the Bobcats after losing 35-26 to Texas State in 2011. Even with a weaker WAC than in previous seasons, it looks to be a long fall for the Bobcats. 3 wins is possible with an expected win versus Stephen F Austin and a coin toss game versus fellow FBS debutante UTSA and a winnable road game versus New Mexico. 2 or even one looks to be the hard truth for Bobcat wins in 2012.
