QB
15 Kalen Henderson 6-0 210 Quarterback SO Mount Airy, La.

Quarterback JR-TR Roanoke, Texas (North Texas)--7th string.
08 Jeff Calvert 6-1 182
Quarterback SO-RS Colleyville, Texas (Colleyville Heritage)--8th string.
With a new quarterback ready to
take the helms in 2012, everyone expected Nebraska transfer Cody Green to take
the job this fall. After the spring depth chart has been revealed, sophomore
Kalen Henderson was surprisingly put on top. Henderson does have some
experience playing in 5 games and passing for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns as a
true freshman. He will have to work all summer and fall to keep his starting
spot as Green is ready to get back on the field after a year away due to NCAA
transfer rules. Redshirt freshman Joseph Calcgni, junior Stephen Rouse, and Junior
Malachi Blankenship will all battle to get that 3rd quarterback spot among the
crowded group of signal callers.

Running Back SO-RS Coweta, Okla. (Coweta)--4th string.
?? James Flanders 5-11
186 Running Back SO Midwest City, Okla. (Midwest City)--No stats in 2011.
The Golden Hurricanes return two
800 yard rushers from 2011 in juniors Ja'Terian Douglas and Trey Watts. Douglas
is listed as the starter on the depth chart and should get at least as many
carries in 2012. Trey Watts is not listed on the depth chart although he
started 12 games at running back and is the team's second leading rusher from
2011 with 881 yards in addition to 242 yards receiving. Alex Singleton should
get some playing time as well after gaining 279 yards rushing and catching 3
passes in 2011 as a backup. Langer, Cade and Flanders all look to play on
special teams.
H-Back
34 Willie Carter 6-2 231 H-Back SR Crockett, Texas (Crockett)--Starting
H-Back. 11 games played, 8
starts. 13 carries for 62 yards and 2 TD. 61 catches for 868 yards and 7 TD.

Linebacker JR Broken Arrow, Okla. (Lincoln Christian)--Backup H-Back.
33 Michael Sorrells 6-2 193 H-Back FR Austin, Texas
(McCallum)--Incoming freshman. 3rd string.
Senior Willie Carter leads a
group of H-Backs that do not have much experience beyond Carter. Carter started
8 games and had 13 carries to go along with an impressive 61 catches and 7
touchdowns in 2011. He will get the majority of the snaps at the position.
Linebacker turned H-Back Cody Wilson looks to back Carter up and may need a
year of seasoning to be ready to play on offense.

Tight End SO Chandler, Ariz. (Phoenix CC)--JUCO transfer.
?? Tyler Wilson 6-7 260
Tight End SO Ponca City, Okla. (Ponca City)--No stats in 2011.
Tight end is a position
that the Golden Hurricanes have lots of players but no ones that made any big
contribution in 2011. Sophomore Greg Brown is the projected starter but will be
challenged by senior Matt Hesterberg and redshirt freshman Colt Clontz. Copa,
Lowe, Scott, Grove and Wilson are too far down the depth chart but could make
an impact on special teams.
WR
88 Bryan Burnham 6-2

games played, 3 starts. 1 carry for -5 yards. 2 catches for 8 yards. 3 kickoff
returns for 15.7 yard average. 2 tackles.

30 Chris Showels 5-8 170
Wide Receiver SO-RS Round Rock, Texas (Vista Ridge)--No stats in 2011.
Tulsa returns two wide receivers
that had solid 2011 season integrating themselves into the Golden Hurricane
offense. Senior Bryan Burnham and junior Jordan James combined for 85 catches
and over 1220 yards to go along with 10 touchdowns last season and will be
expected to at least match those numbers in 2012. Thomas Robertson is the other
projected starter although he did not catch any passes as a freshman. Kelley,
Crabtree, Patterson, Epps, Floyd and Garrett all look to work themselves into
the rotation and could make a big splash in 2012 for the Golden Hurricanes. Senior
Ricky Johnson was not listed on the depth chart but should make an impact as
well in 2012 after a 2011 season that saw him catch 14 passes and 4 touchdowns.

The starting 4 defensive linemen
for the Tulsa defense made a combined 51 of 52 possible started among the line in
2011 and are all ready to make a huge impact for the Golden Hurricane defense
this fall. Senior Cory Dorris (55 tackles), senior Derrick Jackson (25 tackles),
senior Daeshon Bufford (33 tackles), and sophomore Brentom Todd (16 tackles)
combined for 129 tackles on the defensive line and helped improve the Golden
Hurricane defense in 2011. Jewell, King, Alexander, and St. John all are ready
to spell the starting quartet and make some big defensive plays for Tulsa in
2012.

The Golden Hurricanes have a
linebacker corps that is not very experienced other than all conference
linebacker Shawn Jackson who made 101 tackles, 2 interceptions and a defensive
touchdown in 2011. Jackson was suspended for the first 3 games of the 2012
season for a violation of team rules and will be sorely missed in a linebacker
corps that has no starts from any other player last season. Junior Donnell
Hawkins will be the middle linebacker after not making any tackles in his
sophomore season. Senior defensive back/linebacker hybrid DeAundre Brown made
25 tackles as a reserve and looks to pick up some of the slack that Jackson
left to his suspension. Jennings, Nelson and Martin all look to get in the
rotation as backups with Nelson being thrust into a starting job for the first
three games of the season.

42 Cody Lambert 6-0 199
Defensive Back SR Warren, Ark. (Warren)--No stats in 2011.
The secondary for the Golden
Hurricanes is a bit of a mess in 2012 with only 2 of 4 projected starters
making any starts in 2011. Seniors McCoil and Rose started a combined 21 games
in 2011 and added 119 tackles for the defense and look to improve on those
totals in 2012. Mudoh and Flanders are the other projected starters which is a
bit of a surprise with quality free safety Marco Nelson (13 starts, 73 tackles)
sitting at 4th on the depth chart at free safety after starting all 13 games in
2011. Nelson should work his way up the depth chart and at least be competing
for a starting job by the time week one rolls around. Dobbins, Lathrop, Pate,
and Ratliff all look to work into the rotation and get some playing time on
defense this fall.
K
42 Chad Levin 5-9 166 Place Kicker FR-RS Bentonville, Ark.
(Bentonville HS)--Redshirted in 2011.
28 Marshall Gilbert 5-10
150 Place Kicker JR-RS Tulsa, Okla. (Memorial HS)--No stats in 2011.
?? Daniel Schwarz 6-3
189 Place-Kicker SO Lawton, Okla. (MacArthur)--No stats in 2011.
The kicking game for the Golden
Hurricanes is up in the air as none of the three returning kickers have any
game experience. Redshirt freshman Chad Levin looks to be the leader in the
clubhouse after redshirting in 2011 and learning the intricacies of the college
kicking game. Gilbert and Schwarz both look to give Levin a run and honestly,
any of the three could be the starter this fall.
P
28 Cole Way 6-8 205 Punter SO Tulsa, Okla. (Union)--34 punts
for a 38 yard average and 7 punts inside the 20 yard line. 2 were blocked.
After a freshman campaign that
saw him punt 34 times for a 38 yard average with 7 punts inside the 20 yard
line, sophomore Cole Way needs to improve his average per kick to at least 40
yards to the Golden Hurricanes kicking game. His average was slightly stilted
due to 2 of his 34 punts being blocked in 2011.
LS
85 Greg Brown 6-2 252 Tight End SO Bixby, Okla. (Bixby)--Starting
tight end.
47 Blake Abbott 6-0 223
Linebacker/Deep Snapper FR Liberal, Kan. (U. of Kansas)--Transfer from Kansas.
5th string MLB. No stats in 2011.
Starting tight end Greg
Brown looks to be the long snapper for the Golden Hurricanes after a solid 2011
season. He will be fighting with Kansas transfer Blake Abbott who is way down
the depth chart at middle linebacker but could easily move into the starting
job at long snapper.
2011 was a season that
saw the Golden Hurricanes struggle at the beginning and end of the season. The
beginning saw Tulsa lose to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Boise State in
starting the season 1-3. The Golden Hurricanes righted the ship during the
middle of the season but lost their last two games putting them at 8-5 on the
season. 2012 bring a lighter non-conference slate that includes trips to
Arkansas and Iowa State plus home games versus Nicholls State and Fresno State.
3-1 is a distinct possibility for the Golden Hurricanes out of conference. The
Golden Hurricanes miss both East Carolina and Southern Miss this season and
play UCF at home. The road games versus SMU and Houston are the hardest to
judge games in conference play. Another 8-5 season would be satisfactory
although if they go 3-1 out of conference and beat SMU and Houston, 10-4 is
very possible.
