Recruiting News and Notes: 07/30/12

From Thursday, the 26th, to Monday, the 30th, 12 players chose schools among the WAC, MAC, MWC, Sun Belt, Conference USA, and Independents. Let's take a look at the recruits that committed.

7/26/12
JP Quinn OL Naperville, IL Neuqua Valley 6'5" 270--Committed to CMU
Brock Macaulay TE Big Prairie, OH West Holmes 6'7" 240--Committed to Kent State

Neither of these players are star rated according to Rivals. Brock Macaulay is a large tight end that has great height and could be a red zone target as a freshman. JP Quinn is a solid lineman prospect for Central Michigan.

07/27/12
Julius McCall RB Chelsea, AL Chelsea School 5'9" 161--Committed to UAB
Shaquem Griffin DB St. Petersburg, FL Lakewood 6'1" 183 2 stars--Committed to UCF
Shaquill Griffin DB St. Petersburg, FL Lakewood 6'0" 184 3 stars--Committed to UCF
John Stepec DE Mentor, OH Lake Catholic 6'3" 250--Committed to Toledo
Brandon McDowell WR DeSoto, TX DeSoto 5'9" 170 2 stars--Committed to Texas State

A big day for Central Florida in bagging twins Shaquem and Shaquill Griffin from Lakewood high school. Both are good prospects with Shaquill being a 3 star recruit that was holding offers from West Virginia, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Illinois and pretty much the entire MAC and Sun Belt. Texas State pulled in an under the radar running back Brandon McDowell who may have been a 3 star if he was 6-0 rather than 5-9. McCall for UAB and Stepec for Toledo are solid prospects that could turn into good players after a possible redshirt season as freshmen.

7/28/12
Omar Pierre-Louis DB Loxahatchee, FL Seminole Ridge 6'0" 180 2 stars--Committed to BGSU
Jason Shepherd DE Loxahatchee, FL Seminole Ridge 6'1" 215--Committted to BGSU
Michael Davis WR Glendale, CA Glendale 6'2" 180--Committed to BYU

Omar Pierre-Louis and Jason Shephard are teammates at Seminole Ridge High School and Bowling Green pulled them both in on the same game. Pierre-Louis is a 2 star recruit that has great size for a defensive back but may need a year in the program to make an impact. Shephard is a light defensive end that may move to outside linebacker in college but needs to put on some weight to play on the line at the next level. Michael Davis is a wide receiver from California that chose BYU over Iowa State. Davis has not been starred by rivals and could be a bit of a mystery recruit that gets recruited by others heavily if he has a good senior year.
7/29/12
Eric Church DB Sicklerville, NJ Timber Creek 5'10" 172 2 stars--Committed to Kent State

Eric Church is a 2 star prospect that was a nice pull in for Kent State. Church is talented but is a fringe FBS recruit that was only offered by FCS schools previously. Time will tell if Church can become a solid player for Kent State in the future.

7/30/12
Richard Queen OL Oradell, NJ Bergen Catholic 6'4" 265--Committed to UMASS

Richard Queen is a solid guard that is from nearby New Jersey and jumped at the offer from UMass to play FBS football near home. While not ranked in the star system, Queen could come in and add some bulk to be a very good lineman for the Minutemen after a couple of seasons of learning the college game.
