Will the addition of Hardy make BGSU a defense to watch in 2015?

Despite being old news, Bowling Green State University recently officially announced that former Notre Dame safety Eilar Hardy will be a part of the team for the 2015 football season.

Hardy, one of the five Notre Dame players suspended for possible academic dishonesty in 2014, was allowed back on the team after his suspension but only saw game action in two games last fall. His best performance was an eight tackle game versus USC in the regular season finale.

In 15 games played for Notre Dame during his career, Hardy played in 15 games with two starts and made 35 tackles during that time.

The projected safety, an Ohio native, came out of high school as the 209th best player in the nation for the 2010 recruiting class according to Rivals and should help shore up a defense that welcomes experience on the back end. Though young as a group, over 10 Falcon defensive backs saw game action of some sort in 2014.

Hardy will, at the least, push the rest of the Falcon secondary into overdrive to keep their spots on the field. BGSU gave up over 33 points per game in 2014 so no one has a guaranteed spot unless they prove they deserve it. Expect position battles in the secondary to push well into summer and fall practice and even into the 2015 season.

Bowling Green will need all the defensive help possible with a schedule that includes a season opening game in Nashville versus Tennessee followed by a trip to Maryland, a visit from a talented Memphis squad and a trip to Big Ten foe Purdue before MAC action even begins.
