2015 Sun Belt Conference Games To Watch

Conference games to watch:

  1. Texas State at Louisiana: Two of the better rushing attacks in the conference face off in a game that could have major conference title implications this fall. The Ragin' Cajuns have easily take care of Texas State in both previous meetings so the Bobcats have increased incentive to pull the upset. I don't see this game being a 24-point margin of victory Louisiana had in the two previous games.
  2. Arkansas State at South Alabama: The Jaguars get a shot on national television to show that they deserve talk as one of the best teams in the Sun Belt. Arkansas State has won all three meeting between the two programs with two of the three games being a difference of seven or fewer points except for a 45-10 pasting last fall. Expect this game to be closer to the seven or fewer point spread.
  3. Louisiana at Arkansas State: In a rivalry that has been played 43 times and at times has gotten quite hateful, the Ragin' Cajuns have won five of the last seven meetings. This is ususally one of the best Sun Belt games of the year and has two of the best Sun Belt players in Fredi Knighten and Elijah McGuire. Make sure you catch this game on television or even better, in person.
  4. Georgia Southern at Appalachian State: The battle of the newbies to the Sun Belt, this game is the toughest conference game on Georgia Southern's slate. Expect a game that goes into the fourth quarter with two rushing offenses that are incredibly difficult to stop. If the Mountaineers are to pull off the win, they will need a big day from running back Marcus Cox.
  5. South Alabama at Texas State: The Jaguars and Bobcats are hand in hand in most predictions at the second level below the top four team in the Sun Belt. This game can be a springboard for either program to make a dark horse run at the Sun Belt title or get their season back in order. Expect this to be one of the hardest fought games of the year and I wouldn't be surprised at overtime.
  6. Texas State at Georgia Southern: The Bobcats had a chance in 2014 to be the one Sun Belt team to beat Georgia Southern but came up just short in a three point loss. Texas State knows just how important a win over the Eagles would be and will throw everything at the 2014 Sun Belt champs. This is one of the toughest conference games of the season for Georgia State and they can easily lose if they don't watch out.
  7. Arkansas State at Appalachian State: The Red Wolves still remember how Appalachian State ran all over their defense last season and want more than anything to set that result straight. That will not be an easy task as Mountaineers quarterback Tyler Lamb and running back Marcux Cox will be a very tough duo to stop.
  8. Louisiana at South Alabama: Another chance for the Jaguars to show on national television that they deserve talk at the top of the Sun Belt. Louisiana has won two of the three overall meetings and bring back a large portion of last year's 9-4 team that beat USA 19-9. The only way South Alabama can pull off this win is to stop the Ragin' Cajuns acclaimed rushing attack.
  9. Louisiana at Appalachian State: The Ragin' Cajuns are still angry at a 35-16 loss in November to the Mountaineers that cost them a share of the Sun Belt title. A battle of rushing attacks will be won by whoever can gain valuable yards in the air as well with both defenses geared up to stop the run. This game should have lots of weight in determining who wins the Sun Belt this fall.
  10. Georgia State at Texas State: For a team looking to take the next step forward this fall, this matchup versus Georgia State is the exact type of trap game to avoid. Georgia State struggles to play defense or rush the ball but are very proficient at passing with quarterback Nick Arbuckle. The Panthers can and will put up some points but as long as Texas State gets out with a win, it will not matter how ugly things get.
