University of Central Florida

Type of Offense: Pro-Style. This offense is a run oriented offense that uses run plays and play action to get defenders out of position for passes in the 15-25 yard range. The tight end and fullback are more involved in the offense as the fullback is a blocker and the tight end is 70/30 blocking versus running routes. Most known for the isolation running plays in the middle, the offense has evolved to a more off tackle and “counter trey” running offense. This is more of the style of professional ranks allowing for a QB with a strong arm to thrive.

Type of Defense: 4-3.  Fast OLBs with the WLB being stronger in pass coverage and the SLB being stouter versus the run.  MLB is balanced and expected to make most of the tackles, especially versus the run game.  A lot of Cover 2 with the MLB expected to get deep (15 yards) on a pass play.  Corners on an island playing the edges with help over top.  Gap responsibilities on the run game with DL and LB filling gaps and DE normally containing on the edge.

• Run/Pass %: 67/33
• Run/Pass Attempts: 602/296
• Points Per Game: 32.1
• Points Allowed Per Game: 17.1

Key Returning Players:
• Ronnie Weaver, RB: The leading returning rusher from 2010 had 890 yards with 11 TDs rushing as well as 4 catches for 29 yards in 2010. Will split carries as UCF tends to go with a multiple back offense that does not put too much pressure on one player. 2nd team all-conference in 2010.
• Jeff Godfrey, QB: Returning starting QB had over 500 yards rushing with 10 TDs as well as 2159 yards passing and 13 TDs in 2010. Looked good in all aspects of the game leading UCF to a Liberty Bowl victory but must step up to about 2500 yards passing in 2011.

Key Incoming Freshmen:
• Toby Jackson, DE: The highest rated recruit to sign with a Conference USA school this year. This 4 star DE is 6-5 and 265 pounds but can still run a 4.7 40 yard dash. He is a JC transfer so he is more polished than any of the other 4 stars coming into CUSA.
• DeMarcus Smith, QB: This 4 star QB out of Louisville, KY is 6-1 and 180 pounds and may end up moving to another position on the field to get the best out of his talents. He is a great athlete and will be hard to keep off the field in one fashion or another.
• Leilon Willingham, LB: This 4 star linebacker out of Denver, Colorado is 6-2 and 240 pounds but has speed by running a 4.6 40 yard dash. He is the perfect fit for the MLB spot and could rack up a lot of tackles before he leaves UCF.

Overall Assessment:

Won the conference, conference title game, and their bowl game in 2010. Lost to NC State, and Kansas State out of conference and took care of things in conference other than a surprising loss to Southern Miss. They go to BYU and FIU and host Boston College in their more difficult non conference games this fall. Put 2 players on the 1st team all-conference team and 2 players on the 2nd team all-conference teams in 2010. Best case scenario is beating Boston College and FIU and having a game between BYU being a roadblock to a special season. They could easily go 11-1 and top 25 in 2011.
