Overall Breakdown: Louisiana Tech were one win away from being bowl eligible but after looking at their schedule from 2010, it is apparent that the Bulldogs were much farther from a possible bowl bid than that. They beat the teams that were considered “bad” but lost every game versus a “good” team last fall. The only one of those losses that was within 10 points was a 13-12 loss to a bowl bound Southern Miss squad that they open the 2011 season with. Southern Miss was right in the running in every game except for the season opener versus South Carolina. The Golden Eagles could not make the defensive stops in their losses giving up 41 to South Carolina, 44 to East Carolina, 50 to UAB, 56 to Tulsa, and 31 to Louisville. If Southern Miss can shore up those defensive deficiencies and keep the offense rolling then 2011 could be something special. While Southern Miss struggled versus Louisiana Tech in 2010 and won a sloppy game 13-12, things should go differently in 2011. With the home field advantage and the extra time to prepare for the Bulldogs offense and defense, Southern Miss should be able to win this fall with more of a cushion with a score along the lines of 31-14 or 35-17.
