Overall Breakdown: Tulsa was one of the better Conference USA teams in 2010 but could not make the early season defensive stops to play for the conference championship. They lost a wild game to start the season, 51-49 to East Carolina then gave up 65 points 2 weeks later to an offensively talented Oklahoma State squad. If the Golden Hurricanes can slightly improve that defense that gave up over 50 points 3 times and allowed 30.3 points per game, then they should end up in the conference title game and possibly in the top 25 in 2011. Oklahoma is the preseason #1 in both polls and outscored opponents by nearly 16 points in 2010 with a very potent offense. Two road losses (Missouri and Texas A&M) were the undoing of the Sooners national title hopes in 2010 although they did still make it to the Big 12 title game which they won as well as the Fiesta Bowl which they won in dominant over Big East champion UCONN. This game is a tall order for Tulsa as they start the season with a team that many experts feel will play for the national title. Tulsa will try hard but do not have the overall depth to compete with Oklahoma and should lose by a score that will look worse than it actually was.
