Fall Preview for the Florida Atlantic Owls
QB
#14 Graham Wilbert RS-JR 6-6 225
QB Valencia, CA (Valencia)--Projected starter. 11 game played, 10 starts.
154-294 passing for 1459 yards and 7 TD.
#10 Stephen Curtis RS-FR 6-3 225 QB South Sumter, SC
(Sumter)--Redshirted in 2011.
#07 David Kooi RS-JR 6-7 210 QB Pensacola, FL (Pensacola Catholic)--5
games played, 1 start. 19-35 passing for 168 yards and 1 TD.
#16 Nick Bracewell RS-FR 6-3 220 QB Live Oak, FL
(Lafayette)--Redshirted in 2011.
#17 Grant Flessner FR 6-0 185 QB Sarasota, FL (Venice)--incoming
freshman.
#18 Colton Kane FR 6-3 190 QB Navarre, FL (Navarre High
School)--Incoming freshman.
2011 was a struggle to say the
least in the passing game but redshirt junior Graham Wilbert took the reins and
started 10 of the 12 games on the season and comes into 2012 as the projected
starter. Redshirt freshman Stephen Curtis won the second team job during spring
practice and could easily compete with Wilbert for the starting job this fall.
Redshirt junior David Kooi went into last summer as the projected starter but
failed to secure the job and is now 3rd on the depth chart with little chance
to see the field this fall. Redshirt freshman Nick Bracewell looks to just get
experience learning from the upper player on the depth chart this season.
Freshmen Flessner and Kane will most likely get redshirted.
RB
#08 Xavier Stinson RS-JR 5-9 229
RB Miami, FL (Chaminade-Madonna)--Projected starter. 12 games played, 11
starts. 35 carries for 88 yards. 22 catches for 147 yards and 1 TD.
#22 Damian Fortner RS-SO 5-10 195 RB Miami, FL (Everglades)--7 games
played. 11 carries for 27 yards. 3 catches for 26 yards.
#38 Cary White SO 5-10 200 RB
Tampa, FL (Sickles)--9 games played, 2 starts. 6 carries for 34 yards. 1
kickoff return for 10 yards. 2 tackles.
#25 Travis Jones RS-SO 5-11 190 RB Port St. Lucie, FL (Treasure Coast)--8
games played. 1 carry for 11 yards. 3 catches for 23 yards. 8 punt returns for
7.1 yard average.
#30 Jonathan Wallace JR 6-0 198 RB Lauderhill, FL (Boyd Anderson)--No
stats in 2011.
#35 Julius Cartwright RS-SO 5-11 225 RB South Euclid, OH (University
High School)--No stats in 2011.
#21 Tony Moore RS-FR 5-11 220 RB Tallahassee, FL (Lincoln)--Redshirted
in 2011.
#28 Antonio Washington FR 6-2 195 RB Arcadia, FL (DeSoto)--Incoming
freshman.
#34 Javaris Giles FR 6-1 210 RB Port St. Lucie, FL (St. Lucie West
Centennial)--Incoming freshman.
The running game looks to be a
multitude of players working in a rotation this fall. Redshirt junior Xavier
Stinson gets the starts but has little experience rushing only 35 times
although he was used for 22 catches showing his versatility. Fortner, White and
Jones all look to get into the rotation and could easily all get over 20
carries with Fortner likely to split the majority of the carries this fall with
Stinson. Wallace, Cartwright and Moore look to be too far down the depth chart
to make a good push for a starting or reserve job. Freshmen Washington and
Giles will have to show something special immediately to not get lost in the
shuffle and redshirted in 2012.
FB
#40 Chris Jackson RS-SO 6-1 230 FB Panama City, FL (Arnold)--4 games
played. 3 carries for 13 yards.
#47 Mason Hamilton SO 6-0 200 FB Lighthouse Point, FL (Pompano Beach,
FL)--No stats in 2011.
While the fullback position is not expected to be utilized as much in 2012,
both Jackson and Hamilton are versatile players that can be used in any number
of positions. Expect both to be utilized on special teams mostly this fall.
TE
#09 Nexon Dorvilus RS-SO 6-4 225
TE Miami, FL (North Miami Senior)--Projected starter. 12 games played, 4
starts. 20 catches for 226 yards and 1 TD. 1 tackle.
#84 Alex Deleon RS-FR 6-4 210 TE Belleview, FL (Belleview)--Redshirted
in 2011.
#85 Eamon Ryan FR 6-2 210 TE Palm Bay, FL (HS)--Incoming freshman.
#?? Brendan Meyers FR 6-1 187 TE Lake Worth, FL (Park Vista)--Incoming
freshman.
Redshirt sophomore Nexon Dorvilus
is the only tight end with experience and had a solid 20 catches in 2011 for
the Owls. Deleon is the favorite to back up Dorvilus and get in the rotation.
Depending on the amount of use by the Owls, freshmen Ryan and Meyers could get
playing time and a few catches in 2012.
WR
#02 Andre Richardson RS-JR 6-2
180 WR Panama City, FL (Bay)--Projected starter. 12 games played, 11 starts. 1
carry for 37 yards. 32 catches for 269 yards. 1 tackle.

#67 Anthony Morris FR 6-2 260 OL Cooper City, FL (Arch
Bishop)--Incoming freshman.
#68 Mohammad Farah FR 6-2 285 OL Estero, FL (Estero High
School)--Incoming freshman.
With an offensive line that
features 3 projected starters that made 9+ starts in 2011, the Owls may be the
strongest this fall on the offensive line. Niblack and Hansen are the other 2
starters and have experience of their own with 11 and 4 games played in 2011.
Backups include Chappell, Williams, Sessa, Marsaille, and Nasiff. Marsaille and
Nasiff are very intriguing because they are true freshmen that have already
worked themselves into the 2 deep chart. With 2 redshirt freshmen and 4 other
true freshmen, there will be alot of competition this fall for playing time.
DL
#31 Cory Henry SO 6-3 238 DE
Miami Gardens, FL (Coral City)--Projected starter. 10 games played, 8 starts.
39 tackles, 6.5 for loss. 1.5 sacks. 1 interception, 1 pd.

2011.
#97 Karl James RS-FR 6-1 270 DL Miami, FL (Miami Sunset)--Redshirted in
2011.
Three of the four starters on the
defensive line have experience from 2011 with sophomore Cory Henry making 8
starts and making 39 tackles, redshirt junior Jimmy Jeam making 9 starts and 29
tackles, and redshirt sophomore David Baptiste making 3 starts and 23 tackles.
True freshman Robinson Eugene has worked himself into the starting lineup at
defensive tackle and looks to be a talented player for the Owls moving forward.
Another true freshman, Joe Henry, is in the rotation at defensive end along
with sophomore Nicardo Henry. Redshirt sophomore Andrew Stryffeler and yet
another true freshman Matt Chaney round out the defensive tackle rotation.
Zele, Huntt, Adolphe, Kiranlar, and James all look to get themselves into the
defensive line rotation as well.

#58 Conard Johnson FR 6-0 225 LB Pompano Beach, FL (Blanche

The linebacker spot may be the
best and most experienced spot for the Owls on defense in 2012. Junior David
Hinds leads the team from his middle linebacker spot with 110 tackles and 2
sacks in 2011 putting him in the top tacklers in the Sun Belt last season.
Redshirt sophomore Randell Johnson made 92 tackles at outside linebacker
including an impressive 14.5 for loss and 5 sacks. Sophomore Martin Wright
added 33 tackles and a sack in 2011. Copeland and true freshman Andrae Kirk
look to be backups and get some playing time this fall. Also expect redshirt
sophomore Toney Moore to get on the field and make some plays as well.
DB
#03 Keith Reaser RS-SO 6-0 185 CB
Miami, FL (Miami Killian)--Projected starter. 12 games played, 12 starts. 61

County)--Redshirted in 2011.
#81 Shaheem Sutherland FR 5-10 185 DB Homestead, FL
(Homestead)--Incoming freshman.
All four of the starters in the
defensive backfield have made at least one start led by redshirt sophomore
Keith Reaser who made 61 tackles in 2011 from his cornerback spot. Treon Howard
started the other cornerback spot and made 46 tackles and scored a defensive
touchdown last season. Redshirt juniors Denetrius Williamson and Brentley
Harstad man the safety positions with a combined 81 tackles in 2011. DJ
Frye-Smith, Winfred Strickland, and true freshmen Lozandier and Parms all look
to be in the rotation as backups for the upcoming year.
LS
#54 Tim Raber RS-JR 6-2 185 LS Fort
Myers, FL (Fort Myers)--11 games played. 7 tackles.
After playing in 11 games in 2011
as the long snapper, redshirt junior Tim Raber looks to improve on his snapping
even more and continure to be the special teams force they need him to be.
K
#35 Vinny Zaccario JR 5-11 180 K
Valrico, FL (Newsome)--12 games played. 7-11 field goals. Long of 43 yards.
18-18 PATs. 7 kickoffs, 0 touchbacks.
Junior Vinny Zaccario was 7-11 on
field goals and a perfect 18-18 on extra points in 2011 and looks to improve on
that total in 2012. The only troubling statistic for Zaccario was that he
missed 2 kicks from inside 30 yards last season.
P
#92 Marcelo Bonani FR 5-11 160 K/P Lake Wales, FL (Lake Wales)--Incoming
freshman.
#67 Sean Dooley JR SP--I have no idea what position or anything about
him.
Overall, there is
nowhere to go but up for the Florida Atlantic Owls in 2012. With 3 of their
first 4 games on the road, including games at Georgia and Alabama in back to
back weeks, there is little doubt that the Owls will be beat up and in bad
shape by the end of September. The only game of the first 5 that looks like a
win is the opener versus Wagner. The trip in week 2 to MTSU will be tough but
possible to win and a home game versus North Texas to end September becomes a
virtual must win to hold any hope of 5+ wins in 2012. Luckily the Owls do not
face Arkansas State this fall and get rival FIU and ULL at home. They do have
to go to Bowling Green to face WKU and to Annapolis to face Navy in two games
that are projected losses. There is little hope for anything more than 4 wins
for the Florida Atlantic camp in 2012.
