FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Rams' first practice of the 2012 school year had some added weight compared to previous seasons.
Head Coach Jim McElwain announced the addition of Calvin Tonga, a defensive lineman from Arizona Western Junior College in Yuma, Ariz.
"Calvin Tonga was here at practice," McElwain said. "He should be in pads tomorrow, just waiting on some paperwork to clear him on some things. He is in school, so everything is good there. He is part of the roster."

Nevada:
Week two of the Nevada football team’s fall camp culminated on Sunday with the team’s annual Practice With the Pack Youth Day at Wolf Pack Park. Hundreds of area youth football players spent the afternoon going through drills with the Pack’s players and coaching staff.
That was preceded in the week by a full practice schedule, including three sets of “double-day” practices and the team’s second scrimmage of camp, which took place on Saturday in Mackay Stadium.
“What I liked today was that there was some pretty good enthusiasm and some good hitting,” head coach Chris Ault said after the scrimmage. “We are doing an awful lot of things with some different people and it’s going to be interesting to see the tape.

San Diego State:

Head Coach Rocky Long
Opening statement:
We're right in the middle of two-a-days. This sounds like every coach in America, we have a long way to go. We have a few injuries, some guys that have to get well. I do believe this team makes progress every day. So some time during the season, we're going to be a good football team. I'm hoping it's right off the bat. If I was guessing right now, I would say it's not right off the bat. It will be partway through the season that we'll be a pretty good football team. We've still got a week and a half to practice, so maybe we'll make gigantic steps in the next week and a half and we'll be a good football team right from the start, because we're not right now.
Q. Does the team not being up to your standards alarm you with your toughest opponent coming up in about 10 days?
I don't know if that's going to be our toughest game, but they are a good football team. That's not alarming at all. I've been doing this forever. This is normal. It's not alarming, it's normal. The only time you have confidence that you're going to have a good football team right from the start is when you have about 30 seniors on your team. We don't have very many seniors and only about six of them are starting.

Wyoming:
On a beautiful Saturday morning with temperatures in the low 70s, the Wyoming Cowboy Football team went through a scrimmage that lasted a little over two hours and included 150 plays. The Cowboys' No. 1 defense again looked sharp, allowing only two field goals and no touchdowns in 12 series. The No. 1 offensive unit enjoyed an outstanding day throwing the football. Sophomore quarterback Brett Smith completed 14 of 22 passes (63.6 percent) for 184 yards and threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Robert Herron. The offense ended the day with 428 yards of total offense -- 263 passing and 165 rushing.
