WKU gets commitment from 3-star Joe Fennel

With schools like South Carolina, Nebraska and Florida high on his list, many wondered if Western Kentucky was even an afterthought with 6'5", 320 pound lineman Joe Fennel. Today, to the shock of many, Fennel announced his commitment to the Hilltoppers. Fennel is more known as an offensive lineman but could set up as an impressive defensive tackle in the Hilltopper's 4-3 set.

Fennel also held offers from Auburn, Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Miami and West Virginia among others. There are rumors about academic eligibility with Fennel but Taggart and company put in the work with freshman Daqual Randall getting him eligible when many thought he would have to go the JUCO route.

It is nice to see the little guys win one over the big boys even if it is just on the recruiting trail. More information should be coming out soon about the specifics of Fennel verbally committing to WKU.

Update: ESPN has Fennell rated as a 4-star recruit.
