Overall Breakdown: North Texas was not a very good football team in 2010 going 3-9 and getting outscored by almost 6 points per game. The Mean Green played much better after their head coach was fired only winning 1 game but right in there till the end versus every opponent. The spread offense ran by the Mean Green is predicated by the running of senior running back Lance Dunbar who had over 1500 yards in 2010. Teams will be geared up in 2011 to stop him until a passing attack can be proven to take some of the offensive load. Florida International had a surprising 2010 season in which they not only made their first bowl game in school history but won it in dramatic fashion as well. The Panthers started 2010 in poor fashion but won 7 of their final 9 games to get to a winning record last year. The defense must make a few more stops to widen the point differential if the Golden Panthers expect to be bowling again in 2011. Overall, this should be a good matchup although Florida International controlled the 2010 matchup leading 27-3 at the half and cruising to a 34-10 victory that could have been worse had FIU not taken their foot off the gas in the second half. Look for the Mean Green to give the Panthers a good run for about a half before FIU pulls away and wins this matchup by 10+ points.
