Fresno State
QB
#04 Derek Carr QB 6-3 205 JR
Bakersfield, Calif. Bakersfield Christian--13 games played. 3 rushing TD.
279-446 passing for 3544 yards and 26 TD. 1 catch for -1 yards.
#19 Kelly O'Brien QB 6-7 200 RS JR Manhatten Beach, Calif. Foothill JC--No
stats in 2011.
#10 Greg Watson QB 5-11 200 RS SO Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Rancho
Cucamonga--2 games played. 1 carry for 1 yard. 0-1 passing.
#16 Marcus McDade QB 6-3 190 RS FR Stockton, Calif.
St.Mary's--Redshirted in 2011.
#?? Myles Carr QB 6-0 175 FR Arcadia, Calif. Arcadia--Incoming
freshman.
Junior Derek Carr (younger
brother of former #1 draft pick David Carr) leads the Bulldog offense after
throwing for over 3500 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2011. He is the only
returning quarterback with any real experience and should get all of the
important snaps this fall barring an injury. Juco transfer Kelly O'Brien and
redshirt sophomore Greg Watson look to battle for the right to backup Carr in
2012.
FB
#22 Malique Micenheimer FB/LB
6-1 225 SO Stockton, Calif. McNair--11 games played. 3 tackles.
#46 Tapa Taumoepeau FB 6-3 235 RS SR Euless, Texas Trinity--No stats in
2011.
With 2 fullbacks on the roster
that do not have significant experience in season, the job is wide open for the
2012 year. Micenheimer played in 11 of 13 games and contributed on special
teams making 3 tackles on the season for the Bulldogs. He will battle with
senior Tapa Taumoepeau who did not make any statistical contribution on the
season. Either could be the fulltime fullback but Micenheimer looks to be the
favorite.
RB
#08 Robbie Rouse RB 5-7 185 SR
San Diego, Calif. Madison--13 games played. 329 carries for 1549 yards and 13
TD. 32 catches for 228 yards and 1 TD.
#02 Milton Knox RB 5-9 210 RS SR Pacoima, Calif. UCLA--13 games played.
6 tackles. 20 carries for 84 yards. 1 catch for 13 yards. 1 kickoff return for
10 yards.
#25 Darryl Cash RB 5-10 190 SO Stockton, Calif. Lincoln HS--2 games
played. 1 tackle.
#42 Jerry Kelly RB 5-7 170 RS JR Lancaster, Calif. Paraclete--No stats
in 2011.
#37 Jonathan Norton RB 5-8 185 JR Moreno Valley, Calif. Moreno Valley--No
stats in 2011.
#24 Dillon Root RB 6-0 180 SO Visalia, Calif. Redwood--No stats in
2011.
The question for the rushing
attack of the Bulldogs is not who will get the carries but instead who will back
up Rouse this fall. Senior Robbie Rouse is the definite starter at the running
back position after rushing for over 1500 yards and 13 TD in 2011. Senior
Milton Knox looks to be the backup after a solid season in 2011 getting 20 carries
and a 4.1 yards per carry average. Sophomore Darryl Cash should push Knox for
the backup job and may get 10-15 carries in 2012. Expect freshmen Thomas and
Waller to be redshirted this fall and saved for the future.
TE
#45 Riley Barnes TE 6-3 220 SO Tulare,
Calif. Tulare--10 games played. 1 kickoff return for 7 yards.
#85 Ryan Boschma TE 6-4 240 RS JR Bakersfield, Calif. Bakersfield
Christian--No stats in 2011.
#40 Michael Butler TE 6-2 250 RS SR Fresno, Calif. Sunnyside--No stats
in 2011.
Another position that has a wide
open race for the 2012 season is the tight end position. Sophomore Riley Barnes
is the early leader being the only tight end to make a statistical impact for
the Bulldogs in 2011. Barnes played in 10 of 13 games with most of his work
coming on special teams. Neither Boschma or Butler made and statistical
contribution but will battle Barnes for playing time at tight end.
WR
#06 Jalen Saunders WR 5-9 160 JR
Elk Grove, Calif. Pleasant Grove--13 games played. 8 carries for 91 yards and 2
TD. 50 catches for 1065 yards and 12 TD. 1 tackle.
#11 Rashad Evans WR 5-9 180 RS
SR San Francisco, Calif. James Logan--13 games played. 44 catches for 351 yards
and 3 TD. 1 punt return for 20 yards. 2 kickoff returns for 4.5 yard average.
#01 Isaiah Burse WR 5-11 180 JR
Modesto, Calif. Modesto Christian--13 games played. 40 catches for 436 yards
and 1 TD. 75 kickoff returns for 21.4 yard average. 1 tackle.
#03 Josh Harper WR 6-1 185 RS SO Stockton, Calif. St. Mary's--11 games
played. 35 catches for 497 yards and 5 TD. 1 carry for -2 yards.
#82 A.J. Johnson WR 6-0 180 RS JR Bakersfield, Calif. Highland--13
games played. 8 catches for 154 yards.
#05 Victor Dean WR 6-5 200 SO San Diego, Calif. Lincoln--8 games
played. 2 catches for 15 yards and 2 TD.
#87 Mathew De Los Santos WR 5-11 180 SR Oxnard, Calif. Rio Mesa--No
stats in 2011.
#17 Taylor Stewart WR 6-0 175 RS JR Fresno, Calif. Buchanan--No stats
in 2011.
#86 Gerome Surrell WR 5-11 200 SR Stockton, Calif. St. Mary's--No stats
in 2011.
#80 Davante Adams WR 6-2 200 RS FR Palo Alto, Calif. Palo
Alto--Redshirted in 2011.
The Fresno State receiving corps
was very good in 2011 with 4 receivers getting 35 or more catches on the
season. Junior Jalen Saunders was far and away the best receiver with 50
catches and over 1000 yards and 12 touchdowns. Saunders was flanked by Evans
(44 catches), Burse (40 catches) and Harper (35 catches) who all look to
improve on their totals and make the passing game even more explosive in 2012.
Johnson, Dean and dark horse Davante Adams could all get some catches in 2012 as well.

Dei--Redshirted in 2011.
#56 Ronald Ussery DL 6-3 230 RS FR Encino, Calif. Crespi--Redshirted in
2011.
The Bulldog defensive line has
two seniors looking to add in 2012 to very solid 2011 seasons that saw the two
combine for 52 tackles and 6.5 sacks. Sophomore Tyeler Davison and junior Nat
Harrison make up the rest of the defensive line and added 25 tackles for the
Bulldog defense in 2011. Fryer, Jennings, Dillon, Faletuipapai, Poyadue, Hunt
and Ussery could all work into the rotation in 2012.
LB
#09 Travis Brown LB 6-2 235 SR
Fresno, Calif. Clovis West--13 games played. 85 tackles, 8.5 for loss. 3 sacks,
3 pbu, 3 pd.

stats in 2011.
#24 Kyrie Wilson LB 6-3 210 SO Bakersfield, Calif. Ridgeview--No stats
in 2011.
Brown, Toma, and Su'a are the
only three linebackers with any real experience with Brown making 85 tackles to
lead the defense. Toma and Su'a combined to add 80 tackles in help of Brown.
Some others must step up in 2012 to get in the rotation and give the starters
some rest. Fifita, Mickelson, and Plevney all look to work themselves into the
rotation.
DB
#15 Terrance Dennis DB 6-0 180
RS SR Pomona, Calif. Diamond Ranch--11 games played. 71 tackles, 1 for loss. 1
forced fumble.
#04 L.J. Jones CB 5-11 180 RS JR Los Angeles, Calif. Crespi--13 games

#16 Phillip Thomas S 6-1 205 RS SR Bakersfield, Calif. Bakersfield--No
stats in 2011.
#28 Charles Washington DB 5-11 190 RS FR Encino, Calif. Crespi--Redshirted
in 2011.
The good thing for the Fresno
State defensive secondary in 2011 was that injuries allowed many different
players to contribute and show that they can play a little bit. Dennis, Jones,
Wilson and Dunn look to be the best 4 defensive backs with a combined 199
tackles on the season between the four players. Three other players (Smith,
Dock, and Lewis) got double digit tackles as well in 2011. Smith is an
interesting player and could be a difference maker after making over 5 tackles
per game in three games played.
K
#38 Curtis O'Neill K 5-11 200 RS
JR Clovis, Calif. Reedley--No stats in 2011.
Junior Curtis O'Neill is the
favorite for the kicking job although he did not attempt a kick in 2011. Punter
Andrew Shapiro may compete with O'Neill for the kicking job if needed.
P
#34 Andrew Shapiro P/K 6-0 190
RS SR Walnut Creek, Calif. Las Lomas--13 games played. 1 carry for 15 yards. 66
punts for 39.7 yard average and 21 inside the 20 yard line and 5 over 50 yards.
2 were blocked. 17 kickoffs with 1 touchback. 4 tackles.
#47 Quentin Breshears P 6-0 170 RS FR Mill Valley, Calif. Pitman--Redshirted
in 2011.
Senior Andrew Shapiro looks to be
the punter for the Bulldogs again in 2012 after a solid season that saw him
average 39.7 yards per punt. The protection must be improved as Shapiro saw 2
punts blocked last season. He also kicked off 17 times to mixed results.
LS
#57 Chad Preacher LS 5-10 203 SR
El Dorado, Calif. (Sierra JC)--No stats in 2011.
All that is asked out
of senior Chad Preacher is solid snaps that give the kickers and punters a
chance to do their job. If he can be solid in 2012 and make good snaps, then the
special teams should be solid enough for the Bulldogs to compete for wins in
2012.
ATH
2011 saw Fresno State have a
disappointing 4-9 record and miss out on a bowl game. It was also the end of an
era with the firing of longtime coach Pat Dye who put the program on the map.
Former Texas A&M assistant Tim DeRuyter takes over the program and could be
making some short and long term changes to the program that will change Fresno
State football. Not only does Fresno State have to handle a coaching change but
they also move into the Mountain West Conference upping their strength of
schedule greatly. Non-conference games at Oregon and Tulsa look to be difficult
as well as trips to San Diego State, Boise State, Nevada, and Air Force. A cap
of 5 wins is the best case scenario for the Bulldogs in 2012 with a low but
possible chance of 3 wins if nothing goes right in 2012.
