With such a huge number of wide receivers on the roster, there is a
chance for many new players to come on the scene and make an impact for the
Trojans in 2012. John, Robinson and Thomas look to be starters and have a
combined 20 starts in 2011 with over 1400 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns.
Those three are the main contributors and must again have solid seasons for
Troy to score regularly. Albert, haskins, Worthy, Chitty, Franklin, Payton,
Dunn, Haynie and Moore all also caught passes for the Trojans as well in 2011.

With both defensive ends from
2011 gone, the defensive line for the Trojans are inexperienced going into the
2012 season. Tackles Shermane TeArt and Tony Davis started a combined 16 games
in the middle with 39 tackles and a defensive touchdown. Johnson was redshirted
in 2011 and is virtually an unknown quantity going into the 2012 season. Senior
Kyle Lucas did make two starts in 2011 and had 14 tackles and 1 sack on the
season. Lee, Clark, and Williams all played some in 2011 and should work into
the rotation for the Trojans giving the starters some rest.

All four of the projected
starters in the defensive backfield led by senior strong safety Brynden Trawick
who had a staggering 123 tackles on the season in 2011. Corners Pickett and
Davis added 58 tackles on the edge but no interceptions. Free safety made 34
tackles from his center field position in the defense. Willis, Ponder, Payne,
Valcin, Lofton, and Hadley all look to be right in the rotation after being
right on the cusp of playing time in 2011. There are many other defensive backs
that could get into the game on special teams with the large number of
defensive backs on the roster.

2012 roster for the Trojans has any playing experience with Mack being
redshirted and Scott not making it into any games. It is an open competition
and may take into the season for one player to finally take the starting job

Junior Hunter Graham looks to be
the top candidate for the long snapping job after the 2011 season that saw him
get into one game while junior Kendall Gibson saw no action. Both will compete
for the snapping duties but Graham should win it.
Overall, the Troy Trojans look to
reverse the 2011 season that saw their 6 year Sun Belt champion streak end as
well as their bowl streak. The non-conference schedule will not make those
plans very easy with trips to Tennessee, and UAB as well as home games versus
Mississippi State and Navy. In conference, the Trojans lucked out and see ULL,
Arkansas State, FIU and WKU come to Troy putting them in a better situation
than 2011. The biggest question for the Trojans is how they can handle the huge
roster overhaul with 21 players leaving the program with eligibility remaining
with the Trojans. Troy brought in 32 new players and have a roster that exceeds
110 players. It will be interesting how this huge transition will affect the
Trojans and whether they have the talent on their roster to compete in a much
improved Sun Belt Conference.
