Independent weekend recaps

BYU 47 Hawaii 0--In a dominant Friday night performance, the BYU Cougars crushed the Hawaii Warriors behind a couple of freshmen. Freshman quarterback Taysom Hill threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for 143 yards and another touchdown while 17-year old freshman running back Jamaal Williams added 155 on 15 carries and another two touchdowns in the rout. The Cougars improve to 3-2 and play again on Friday night, this time versus rival Utah State at home in Provo while Hawaii falls to 1-3 and stay stateside to face conference foe San Diego State.

Stony Brook 23 Army 3--In an embarrassing performance, the Army Black Knights were dominated at home by FCS opponent Stony Brooke 23-3. Army had 273 yards rushing and 330 total yards but turned the ball over 4 times and allowed the Seawolves to gash the defense for 424 yards and 11-17 on third downs. This is the first game of the year that the Black Knights did not have a 100+ yard rusher. Army falls to 0-4 on the season and travel to Boston to play the Boston College Eagles Saturday afternoon.

San Jose State 12 Navy 0--With the worst offensive performance in over 10 years, the Naval Academy were physically dominated in a 12-0 loss to the surging San Jose State Spartans 12-0. San Jose State moved the ball at will versus an overmatched Navy defense but failed to score touchdowns instead relying on freshman kicker Austin Lopez on 4-4 kicking in the win. Quarterback David Fales was 29-34 passing for 276 yards in the win. San Jose State improves to 4-1 and get a week off before playing host to a dangerous Utah State team on October 13th while Navy falls to 1-3 and travel cross-country to face fellow service academy Air Force in a huge rivalry game.
