Rice Spring Game and Roster Information

Klein Kubiak caught a pair of touchdowns and Taylor McHargue threw for two to lead the Blue team to a 27-17 win over the Grays as Rice concluded its 2013 Spring Drills with the annual Spring Game.

The Blue team was made up of the Owls offensive players, while the defense represented the Gray. In addition to touchdowns and field goals, points were also awarded on offense for explosive plays, while the defenders were awarded points for sacks, tackles for loss, three and outs, and holding the offense scoreless inside the red zone.

The Gray started quickly scoring points through both the scoring system as well as the traditional way when Malcolm Hillintercepted a Guy Billups from the end zone and returned it three yards for a score.
McHargue connected with Luke Turner on a 42-yard touchdown to get the offense on the board for the first time and afterDriphus Jackson took over at quarterback, the offense moved in front for the first time. Jackson hit Darik Dillard for a gain of 21 yards and then found Kubiak in the end zone for the first of his two scores.

After Chris Boswell knocked home a 53-yard field goal, the Grays again tied the game thanks to a sack by Zach Patt. McHargue and Kubiak hooked up in the middle fourth quarter to put the offense ahead to stay.
Boswell ended the days scoring with a 50-yard field goal on the game's final play.

McHargue was 9-14 passing for 106 yards while Jackson was 5-11 for 64 yards and one score. Sophomore Brandon Hamilton led all rushers with 43 yards on seven carries, followed by Jackson with 37 yards on seven carries and Dillard with 23 on 10 carries.

Defensively, the Gray was led by Stuart Mouchantaf and Austin Laudenschlager who each were credited with four tackles. Mouchantaf also picked up a tackle for loss. The Grays were credited with five sacks, with both Patt and J.T. Blassingame being credited for seven yards lost on their sacks.

With the end of spring drills, the Owls will turn their attentions final exams and a break before the start of summer school and conditioning. They will open Fall camp in early August in advance of opening the 2013 season when they face Texas A&M on August 31.
