Bowl Prognosis:
95% chance.
Current Bowl Projection: Heart
of Dallas Bowl, Jan. 1, Dallas, TX, Minnesota vs. Rice
Tulane 6-2: The Green Wave,
with a recent 14-7 win over Tulsa, are now bowl eligible and on pace for their third
winning season since 2000. Tulane is currently riding a four-game winning
streak with wins over ULM, North Texas, East Carolina and Tulsa. The Green Wave
have Conference USA bottom-feeding FAU, UTSA and UTEP left before a season
finale versus Rice. That game could easily be for a berth in the CUSA title
game as both are tied for first in the West Division.
Bowl Prognosis: 98% chance.
Current Bowl Projection: New
Orleans Bowl, Dec. 21, New Orleans, LA, Louisiana vs. Tulane
Brigham Young 6-2: With
their sixth win of the season, a 37-20 romp over Boise State, the Cougars are
officially headed to the Fight Hunger Bowl. The bowl had a deal with BYU that
unless the Cougars are invited to a BCS bowl, the Fight Hunger Bowl will be the
bowl of choice. Similar arrangements are made with Independents Army and Navy.
BYU is on a five-game winning streak and boast the #14 rushing attack in the
nation. Huge games at Wisconsin and at Notre Dame are still yet to be played.
8-4 or 9-3 may be the cap for the Cougars in 2013.
Bowl Prognosis: 100% chance.
Current Bowl Projection: Fight
Hunger Bowl, Dec. 27, San Francisco, CA, Oregon State vs. BYU
Buffalo 6-2: Sitting at 6-2
after brutal start to the season that included a 40-20 loss to Ohio State, a
70-13 loss to Baylor and a 5OT win over FCS foe Stony Brook, the Bulls are
currently bowl eligible. While they have made it to 6 wins and are eligible for
a bowl, CBS Sports currently has them on the outside looking in for a bowl in
2013. The Bulls sit at the top of the MAC East Division but face Ohio, Toledo
and Bowling Green, all current teams with winning records, with 0-8 Miami OH
sitting in the middle. As long as the Bulls go 1-3 to end the season, they
should go bowling.
Bowl Prognosis: 85% chance.
Current Bowl Projection: None
yet.
Ohio 6-2: Despite a
confusing 26-23 loss to Central Michigan a couple of weeks ago, the Ohio
Bobcats are bowl eligible yet again and looking forward to playing in a bowl
game for the fifth consecutive season. The Bobcats have played in the GMAC Bowl
(2007), Little Caesars Bowl (2009), New Orleans Bowl (2010), Potato Bowl (2011)
and Independence Bowl (2012) under head coach Frank Solich.
Ball State 8-1. The Bobcats still need another win or two to solidify a
bowl berth but face East Division leaders Buffalo on the road followed by 5-3
Bowling Green, again on the road. After that brutal two-game stretch, the
Bobcats face 2-7 Kent State followed by 1-7 UMass for the season finale.
Bowl Prognosis: 90% chance.
Current Bowl Projection: Beef
O'Brady's Bowl, Dec. 23, St. Petersburg, FL, Ohio vs. East Carolina
Northern Illinois 8-0: Led
by All-American candidate Jordan Lynch, the Huskies are sitting at 8-0, 1/2
game behind Ball State for the MAC West Division Crown. The Huskies are
virtually guaranteed a bowl berth at this point in the season. The Huskies
travel to UMass before hosting Ball State in a matchup for the West Division
crown. NIU could easily be looking at an undefeated regular season but need a
little help right now to sneak into a BCS bowl game. It will be unknown until
the final weekend of the season whether the Huskies can slide into a BCS bowl
game for the second consecutive season.
Bowl Prognosis: 100% chance.
Current Bowl Projection: GoDaddy.com Bowl, Jan. 5, Mobile, AL, NIU
vs. WKU
Fresno State 7-0: After
surviving a scare versus an up and down San Diego State team, the Bulldogs are
four games away from an undefeated regular season. The Bulldogs are the #7
passing team in the country and the #7 scoring team in the country and have put
up at least 35 points in every game this season. An early season postponement
of a road game versus Colorado looks to be a lost hope of rescheduling so
unless the Bulldogs can find a lower division team to face, the season will end
at 11 games. How much the lack of a 12th game in the regular season will change
perceptions in the BCS for Fresno State is yet to be determined but right now,
the Bulldogs are looking at their first BCS Bowl berth in school history.
Bowl Prognosis: 99.9%
chance.
Current Bowl Projection: Fiesta
Bowl, Jan. 1, Glendale, AZ, Oklahoma State vs. Fresno State
