Non-Big 6 Top 10 Preseason Week 1

  1. Boise State (1-0) — A dominant performance in a 35-21 win versus Georgia showed just how strong the Broncos can be. They should move into the top 4, possibly top 3 when the polls come out. Previous: Def. #19 Georgia 35-21, Next: at Toledo.
  2. Air Force (1-0) — The Falcons controlled South Dakota in the 2011 season opener giving up two trash time touchdown making the score look closer than it really was. Air Force has a huge match up versus a somewhat down TCU squad in week 2 giving them a chance to make up for a 38-7 beat down from a year ago. Previous: Def. South Dakota 37-20, Next: TCU.
  3. NIU (1-0) — The Huskies came out looking like 2010 never stopped with an impressive blowout win over Army in week one. A trip to Kansas in week 2 can be a bit of a trap game in looking forward to a big game versus Wisconsin on September 17. If the Huskies don’t look past Kansas, the neutral site game versus Wisconsin could be a great game. Previous: Def. Army 49-26, Next: at Kansas.
  4. BYU (1-0) — A disappointing start to the season with a sloppy 14-13 win over Ole Miss. The Cougars need to step their game up a level for a week 2 match up at a game Texas squad. This is the beginning of a rough 4 game stretch that will make or break their season. Previous: Def. Ole Miss 14-13, Next: at Texas.
  5. Houston (1-0) — A solid performance in a revenge win over UCLA was highlighted by the return of Case Keenum. He made it safely through the opener so everyone in Houston can stop holding their collective breath. Previous: Def. UCLA 38-34, Next: at North Texas.
  6. UCF (1-0) — A good warm up to start the season with a 62-0 win over a helpless Charleston Southern team is a great confidence builder. The Black Knights have a home game versus Boston College before trips to FIU and BYU highlighting a rough 3 week stretch of the season. Previous: Def. Charleston Southern 62-0, Next: Boston College.
  7. Navy (1-0) — The Midshipmen easily won their opener versus a usually game Delaware squad in Annapolis. Navy has a very winnable game versus an improved WKU squad is key before a two week stretch versus #12 South Carolina and Air Force. Previous: Def. Delaware 40-17, Next: at WKU.
  8. Southern Mississippi (1-0) — Won a sloppy game versus Louisiana Tech in the opener. A trip to Marshall followed by a game versus Southeastern Louisiana should put the Golden Eagles in good position for an important trip to Virginia on September 24th. Previous: Def. La. Tech 19-17, Next: at Marshall.
  9. TCU (0-1) — The defense was exposed in a nasty loss to Baylor giving up 50 points and 6 touchdown passes. Defense must get on track for the Horned Frogs to keep their lofty position in the poll. Previous: Lost Baylor 50-48, Next: at Air Force.
  10. Hawaii (1-0) — A nice win over Colorado to start the season is a good starting point for a Warriors squad that has to go to Washington for a week 2 battle. If the warriors get by Washington, it should set them up to be 8-0 for a big November matchup versus Utah State. Previous: Def. Colorado 34-17, Next: at Washington.
Also receiving votes: Nevada (0-0), Toledo (1-0), SDSU (1-0).
