Akron, a brief look

Akron (1-11, 0-8)--The Zips want desperately to turn the page after a disastrous 2011 season that saw them only win over game (36-13 over VMI) and look noncompetitive for nearly the entire season. As expected, the Zip fired coach Ianello with 2011 being his second consecutive 1-11 season giving him a 2-22 record in 2 seasons. In a surprise move, Akron hired former Auburn coach Terry Bowden who last coached in 1998, resigning from Auburn. Bowden brings with him the pedigree of the Bowden family name as well as an undefeated season in 1993. The first recruiting class for Bowden produced a couple of very nice defensive prospects and a quarterback that may be a multiple year starter for the Zips. The good news for Akron is that they cant get much lower so expect significant improvement for the Zips even if the win total doesn’t go up that much in 2012.
