Conference USA Saturday Results

Conference USA:

No. 16 Ohio State 29, UAB 15: Despite playing a solid game versus #16 Ohio State, the UAB Blazers fell 29-15 Saturday in Columbus. The Blazers outgained the Buckeyes 403-347 including 259 yards passing but two costly turnovers were the difference in the game. The Blazers are now 0-3 with a home game versus Conference USA brother Tulsa at Legion Field in Birmingham.

Wisconsin 37, UTEP 26: In a very even game that was a 4-point game with less than 4 minutes left in the game, the UTEP Miners were outscored 14-7 in the final 3:20 in losing to Wisconsin Saturday. The Miners passed for 259 yards but had only 77 yards rushing in the game. UTEP is now 1-3 with a trip to East Carolina for a Conference USA matchup.

North Carolina 27, East Carolina 6: Coming off of a nice win over Southern Miss last week, the East Carolina Pirates were unable to continue their winning ways in a 27-6 loss to North Carolina Saturday. The Pirates were down 10-6 at the half but were undone by a 14-0 North Carolina run in the third quarter to put the game away. East Carolina is even at 2-2 and look for their 2nd Conference USA win with a home game versus UTEP Saturday.

Ole Miss 39, Tulane 0: In yet another anemic offensive performance, the Tulane Green Wave were dominated in every possible aspect losing to the Ole Miss Rebels 39-0 in the New Orleans Superdome. Tulane only managed 159 total yards with only 14 coming on the ground while allowing 450 yards to the Rebels. Tulane falls to 0-3 with a matchup with Sun Belt member ULM at home Saturday afternoon.

Marshall 54, Rice 51 (OT): In a conference game that featured no defense, the Marshall Thundering Herd defeated the Rice Owls 54-51 in 2OT Saturday. The two teams combined for 1240 yards of total offense and 65 first downs with neither team turning the ball over all day. Marshall is now 2-2 with a tough matchup versus at Purdue coming up Saturday while the Rice Owls fall to 1-3 with a city rivalry game versus Houston Saturday afternoon.

Duke 38, Memphis 14: After only trailing 17-14 at the half, the Memphis Tigers were steamrolled 21-0 in the second half in the 38-14 loss to the Duke Blue Devils Saturday in Durham, North Carolina. Memphis struggled to 152 total offensive yards while giving up 500 to Duke. The Tigers scored one defensive touchdown and forced 4 Blue Devil turnovers on the night. Memphis falls to 0-4 with a much needed bye week before hosting fellow Conference USA member Rice in the Liberty Bowl.

Tulsa 27, Fresno State 26: In a game of spurts, the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes came up just a tiny bit better in defeating MWC foe Fresno State at home Saturday. Both teams were within 10 total yards of one another and one first down of each other but 7 penalties for 88 yards doomed the Bulldogs. Tulsa moves to 3-1 with a trip to Birmingham to face UAB Saturday while Fresno State hosts San Diego State in Bulldog Stadium Saturday night.

Western Kentucky 42, Southern Miss 17: Looking to avoid an 0-3 start to the season, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles were crushed by the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 42-17 in Bowling Green, Kentucky Saturday night. The Hilltoppers were coming off of an emotional win over Kentucky last week and used this game as a statement game to the rest of the nation in dominating the Golden Eagles. The Hilltoppers had 560 yards of total offense and two separate 100-yard rushers in the game. Southern Miss falls to 0-3 and have a tough home game versus #19 Louisville coming up Saturday while WKU travels to Jonesboro, Arkansas for a huge game with Arkansas State.
