Recruiting 9/12/12-9/18/12


9-12-12:
Zach Smierciak LB Aurora, OH Aurora 6'2" 211 3 stars--Miami OH
Daniel Stephens OL Duluth, GA Peachtree Ridge 6'2" 286--MTSU

Zach Smierciak is a 6-2, 211 pound linebacker out of Aurora, Ohio that committed to Miami OH over offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo and Yale. Smierciak is a 3-star recruit according to the Rivals website. Smierciak has been timed at 4.56 in the 40 yard dash and has a bench press max of 275 pounds, a squat max of 390 and a vertical jump of 30 inches. Smierciak is a great student with a 3.89 GPA. Smierciak is the type of player that can come in and make an immediate impact as a freshman for the RedHawks.

Daniels Stephens is a 6-2, 286 pound offensive guard out of Duluth, Georgia via Peachtree Ridge High School. Stephens is unranked according to the Rivals website. Stephens chose MTSU over an offer from FCS school Liberty. Stephens is an under the radar raw type of player that MTSU will have to put in their back pocket for a couple of years before getting playing time.

Davion Orphey DB Santa Ana, CA Santa Ana C.C. 6'1" 185 3 stars--BYU
Isaiah Brown DB Katy, TX Katy 5'11" 170--Tulsa

Davion Orphey is a defensive back playing for Santa Ana Community College in Santa Ana, California. Orphey chose BYU to continue his college career over offers from Mississippi State, New Mexico, Utah and Utah State. Orphey has been timed at 4.45 in the 40 yard dash which could make him quite the running back in the BYU offensive scheme. Orphey ran for 566 yards and 4 touchdowns last season with a 4.7 yards average as well as 18 tackles and 6 pass break ups in 2011. Orphey is a 3-star recruit according to the rivals website and should get many more offers as his season progresses.

Isaiah Brown is a 5-11, 170 pound defensive back out of Katy, Texas via Katy High School. Brown chose his allegiance to Tulsa over offers from New Mexico and South East Louisiana. Brown is currently unranked according to the Rivals website but should end up as at least a 2-star recruit. Brown made 47 tackles as a junior in 2011 with 3 interceptions, 11 pass break ups, and 1 fumble recovery. Brown has been very productive in high school and the Tulsa coaching staff see him as a hard-working player that is not flashy but will produce.


9-15-12:

Kalvin Robinson DE Vestavia Hills, AL Vestavia Hills 6'5" 225 3 stars--UAB
Demetrius Smith DB Pensacola, FL West Florida Tech 6'0" 170 2 stars--UAB

Ryheem Dixon is a 6-0, 202 pound defensive back out of Flomaton, Alabama via Flomaton High School. Dixon chose UAB who are currently his only scholarship offer. Dixon has been timed at 4.55 in the 40 yard dash.

Kalvin Robinson is a 6-5, 225 pound defensive end out of Vestavia Hills, Alabama via Vestavia Hills High School. Robinson is a 3-star recruit according to the Rivals website and ranked as the 27th best player in the state of Alabama. Robinson chose the homestate Alabama-Birmingham over surprisingly one other offer from FCS school Western Illinois. Robinson has a bench press max of 300 pounds and a squat of 400. Robinson should get a handful of other offers as his season progresses.

Demetrius Smith is a 6-0, 170 pound defensive back out of Pensacola, Florida via West Florida Tech. Smith is a 2-star recruit according to the Rivals website. Smith chose to go ahead and commit to the Blazers with no other current offers from any other schools. Smith has great size but may be a bit of a tweaner and moved to safety or possibly linebacker once he joins the Blazer program.

Dubois Ross ATH Bethlehem, PA Liberty 6'0" 176 3 stars---Buffalo
Breyun Owens OL Grand Prairie, TX South Grand Prairie 6'3" 290 2 stars--UTSA

Dubois Ross is a 6-0, 176 pound athlete out of Bethleham, Pennsylvania via Liberty High School. Ross is a 3-star recruit according to the Rivals website but has not gotten the national recruiting attention expected of a player of his caliber. Ross chose Buffalo over offers from Holy Cross, Massachusetts, Monmouth and Yale with interest from Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Rutgers. Ross had a great junior season with 232 yards rushing, 1177 yards receiving, 93 tackles, 5 interceptions and 23 overall touchdowns on the season.

Breyun Owens is a 6-3, 290 pound offensive lineman out of Grand Prairie, Texas via South Grand Prairie High School. Owens is a 2-star recruit according to the Rivals website picking Texas-San Antonio over offers from Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin and interest from Oklahoma and Texas Tech. Owens has been timed at 5.13 seconds in the 40 yard dash with a 405 bench press max and a nice 3.6 GPA. Owens projects to play on the offensive line at guard on the college level.
