UTSA 56, Northwestern Oklahoma State 3: In a dominant performance
versus D-II Northwestern Oklahoma State, the UTSA Roadrunners won 56-3 in the
Alamodome Saturday. the Roadrunners raced to 445 total yards and held a 42-3
lead at the half. UTSA improves to 4-0 and get into conference play with a disappointing
New Mexico State squad on the road in Aggie Memorial Stadium.
Wyoming 40, Idaho 37 (OT): With quarterback Brett Smith back on the
field after missing the previous week, the Wyoming Cowboys held on for a 40-37
win over the Idaho Vandals Saturday. Smith was very impressive with 365 yards,
5 touchdowns and no interceptions in the win. Idaho had a season high 509 yards
of total offense including 306 yards passing and 3 touchdowns from Dominique
Smith. The Wyoming Cowboys improve to 1-3 on the season with a bye week
followed by a trip to Nevada to face the Wolfpack while the Vandals fall to 0-4
with a trip to North Carolina coming up Saturday.
Utah State 31, Colorado State 19: On a night when quarterback Chuckie
Keaton struggled, running back Kerwynn Williams set a career high rushing the
ball with 205 yards on 21 carries and 2 touchdowns in the 31-19 Utah State win
over Colorado State. Utah State outgained the Rams by 109 yards but committed 3
turnovers in the closer than comfort win. Utah State improves to 3-1 on the
season and play host to another MWC school with UNLV coming to town while the
Rams go on the road versus Air Force to start conference play.
Texas State 41, Stephen F. Austin 37: In a wild game that saw 964 yards
of total offense and a combined 5 turnovers, the Texas State Bobcats defeated
Stephen F. Austin 41-37 Saturday night in San Marcos, Texas. The Bobcats saw
quarterback Shaun Rutherford throw for throw for 301 yards, rush for 48 yards
and account for 3 touchdowns in the win. Texas State improves to 2-1 on the
season with a Saturday night home game versus MWC opponent Nevada.
San Jose State 38, San Diego State 34: In the matchup between San Jose
State and San Diego State, Spartan quarterback David Fales found Chandler Jones
for the game winning score with only :50 left to lead San Jose State to a 38-34
win Saturday night. San Diego State dominated in yardage and time of possession
but two turnovers that let San Jose State pull out the win. San Jose State
improves to 3-1 with a cross-country trip to Annapolis, Maryland to face Navy
while San Diego State drops to 2-2 with a Saturday night trip to northern
California to play Fresno State.
New Mexico 27, New Mexico State 14: Behind new coach Bob Davie's
experience in big games the New Mexico Lobos broke a 24-game losing streak on
the road defeating rival New Mexico State 27-14 in Las Cruces, New Mexico
Saturday night. The Lobos ran all over the Aggies with 302 rushing yards led by
Kasey Carrier's 121 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown. Pressley added 71
yards and two touchdowns in the dominant win over the rival Aggies. The Lobos improve
to 2-2 and host Boise State Saturday night while the Aggies fall to 1-3 and
host 4-0 UTSA in a must win game for bowl purposes.
Louisiana Tech 52, Illinois 24: Behind a defense that forced 6
turnovers, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs dominated the Illinois Fighting Illini 52-24
in Champaign, Illinois Saturday night. Quarterback Colby Cameron threw for 284
yards and 4 touchdowns in the dominant win over the Big Ten foe. The Bulldogs
improve to 3-0 with another chance to make a national name facing the Virginia
Cavaliers Saturday afternoon.
