Week 5 Preview: Ball State versus Kent State

Saturday, September 29
12:00 PM Ball State at Kent State:

This is a matchup between the Ball State Cardinals of the Mid American Conference and fellow MAC member Kent State. Ball State enters this game at a surprising 3-1 with wins over AQ teams Indiana and South Florida in back to back weeks. The Cardinals are a run-oriented team that rushes for 239 yards per game good for 20th nationally. The defense must improve if the Cardinals expect to keep this streak going with Ball State currently being outscored 36-34 on average per game. Kent State enters this game at 2-1 coming off the heels of a big conference opening win over Buffalo on national television. The Golden Flashes are not impressive at any one things offensively but they just find ways to win games. The emergence of Dri Archer may be the explosive player the offense needs. This is the 26th overall meeting between the two schools with Ball State holding a 19-6 overall series advantage. Ball State must avoid a huge letdown following these two big wins versus AQ teams. The Cardinals must shut down Kent State running back Dri Archer who is averaging over 8 yards per carry on only 30 carries this season. Expect this to be a fairly high scoring MAC game that goes down to the 4th quarter. Ball State pulls it out in the end 38-35.
