Week 5 Preview: San Jose State versus Navy

Saturday, September 29
3:30 PM San Jose State at Navy:
This is a matchup between San Jose State of the Western Athletic Conference and FBS independent Navy. San Jose State is entering this game at an impressive 3-1 on the heels of a 38-34 win over rival San Diego State last week. The Spartans are passing for just over 300 yards per game led by quarterback David Foles' 1124 yards passing and 9 touchdowns on the year. The Spartans need to work on a rushing attack that is only putting up 125 yards per game. San Jose State is holding opponents to 21.8 points per game with only one foe getting over 20 points (SDSU's 34). The Naval Academy is entering at 1-2 with a much needed win over VMI ending a two-game losing streak to start the season. In a bit of a surprise, Navy is only 10th nationally rushing with an additional 145 yards per game in the air. The defense is an issue for the Midshipmen with Notre Dame putting up 50 and Penn State putting up 34 in wins over Navy to start the season. Navy must prove they can stop a very good offense and will get the shot with San Jose State. This is the second overall meeting between the two schools with San Jose State winning a 27-24 thriller in San Jose. Expect Navy to struggle to cover the Spartan wide receivers and give up big plays like in the opening two games. San Jose State is an underrated team that has a chance to make some noise this fall. San Jose State 41-14.
