Week 6 Preview: Northern Illinois versus Ball State

3:00 PM Northern Illinois at Ball State:

This is a Mid American Conference matchup between the Northern Illinois Huskies and the Ball State Cardinals. Northern Illinois enters this game at 4-1 on the season with a last-second loss to Iowa the only blemish on the schedule. In the last 4 games, the Huskies have been one of the hottest teams offensively in the nation scoring just over 40 points per game in the last 4 wins. The Huskies looked good on defense to start the season but some of the issues of 2011 are resurfacing with NIU giving up 23 or more points in the last three games with Army scoring 40. Ball State enters the game at 3-2 on the season behind a very strong offense that is 43rd nationally passing the ball and 27th nationally rushing the ball. The Cardinals are putting up 35.8 points per game ranking them top 40 nationally. The Cardinals are horrible on defense with 37.8 points allowed per game and all 5 previous opponents scoring at least26 points versus the Cardinal defense. This is the 41st overall meeting between the two teams with Ball State holding a 20-17-3 overall series lead. Northern Illinois is turning into a very scary team in the MAC and come into this game with a lot of confidence. Ball State will give them a game but their defense will let them down just like last week versus Kent State. Northern Illinois 44-26.
