On December 19, 2008,
Spider Football and its energized faithful realized the dream of winning a
national championship. What they didn't realize was that on that same
red-letter day another dream emerged. A small, non-descript concrete grandstand
was razed to the ground. Rising from that rubble and nestled amongst the tall
trees and brick buildings of the picturesque University of Richmond campus 20
months later is another dream come true - E. Claiborne Robins Stadium. On a
sun-splashed Sat., Sept. 18, 2010, in front of a sell-out crowd, the Spiders
won the inaugural game, 27-21 in overtime against Elon - and a new era of
Spider Football was christened.

FBS Aspirations: The Richmond Spiders are a small liberal arts college with a very new stadium that only holds 8,700 people. The facility upgrades for Richmond in football alone would be too much to overcome the exposure of moving to the FBS level. Just does not make sense at all for Richmond to even consider the move.
