According to 247, Western Michigan is the 64th ranked recruiting class in the nation and the top class of the MAC programs. 247 gives higher grades to six 3 star recruits for the Broncos that are only 2 star on the Rivals website. Cornerback Justin Spencer is a rare player that is rated higher by Rivals than by 247, earning a 3 star rating from the Rivals website. The Broncos pulled in far and away one of the best recruiting classes for non-power five conference teams with quality and quantity both very high.

The Broncos are coming off of a 8-5 season that included a trip to the Famous Potato Bowl where they lost 38-24 to Mountain West Conference opponent Air Force.
