Overall Breakdown: Kent State had a mediocre 2010 season finishing one win away from having a .500 record last year. The offense wasn’t particularly impressive only averaging about 315 yards per game and just barely over 100 yards on the ground. The defense kept them in the game for the most part with only a -1.6 points per game differential which was better than a few bowl teams of 2010. Alabama had a disappointing season even though they went 10-3 and dominated an overmatched Michigan State squad in their bowl matchup last season. The offense clicked averaging over 35 points per game while the defense gave up only 13.5 per game giving them a +22.2 points per game differential which was very close to the nation’s best. The Crimson Tide are national title contenders in 2011 and should have no trouble taking care of the Golden Flashes in a game that could and should be over by halftime.
