EMU, Nevada, SJSU, Temple, TCU, ULM, New Mexico State, UTEP, and Southern Miss Week 3 Previews

  • Michigan versus Eastern Michigan: Michigan is coming off of a unbelievable last second win over Notre Dame putting them at 2-0 on right on the edge of being in the top 25. The Wolverines have already taken out CMU in the opener and get a chance to make it 2-2 versus home state directionals. Eastern Michigan has started the season 2-0 as well with a rushing offense that is averaging 331 yards and a total of 419 yards per game on offense. This should be a game that Michigan is able to physically control and win in somewhat convincing fashion. Michigan 37-13.
  • Nevada versus San Jose State: The Nevada Wolfpack are looking to get their 2011 season back on track after a brutal loss to Oregon in the opening matchup. The defense got ran through for 69 points and pretty much gave in to anything Oregon did offensively. San Jose State are struggling once again to start the 2011 season losing their first 2 games by and average of 42-10. The Spartans were competitive in week 2 versus UCLA only losing 27-17 after getting demolished 57-3 in the opening week versus Stanford. Nevada should not have too much trouble and win this game fairly convincingly. Nevada 41-21.
  • Penn State versus Temple: Penn State is still reeling from a brutal loss to Alabama in the second game of the season losing 27-11 in a game that wasnt even that close. The Nittany Lions are averagining 305 yards offensively with only 129 coming in the air as they continue to figure out how to replace the quarterback from 2010. Temple has started strong at 2-0 wanting to make it to a bowl game after being snubbed with an 8-4 record in 2010. The Owls have put up 41.5 points per game while only giving up 5 per contest in wins over Akron and Villanova. This is the first real test of the season for Temple and should be too much for them to handle. Penn State 35-14.
  • TCU versus Louisiana Monroe: TCU took it on the chin in week one losing to Baylor 50-48 but bounced back with a nice 35-19 win over Air Force in week 2. The offense is scoring 41.5 points per game while giving up 34.5 per game defensively. The defense did look much better in week 2 but is not on the level of the past few years. ULM is 1-1 with a win over Grambling and a loss to #5 Florida State. The Warhawk offense has only put up 17.5 points per game while giving up 20.5 for a -3 average scoring differential. This is a game that the Warhawks are more or less looking to be competitive and not lose by too much. TCU 44-17.
  • New Mexico State versus UTEP: New Mexico State is 1-1 after two weeks after struggling to get out of the gate going 0-4 in 2010. The win over Minnesota was a big step in the right direction winning 28-21 over a team that took USC to the limit in week 1. The offense is putting up 36 points per game while giving up 32.5 points per game so far. UTEP has struggled to start the 2011 season on a good note after geting blown out in their 2010 bowl game versus BYU. An overtime win over I-AA Stony Brook and a loss to SMU have highlighted a 2011 season that has seen the Miners give up 26 per game while only scoring 24 per game. This should be a game that UTEP wins but not without alot of trouble. UTEP 27-24.
  • Southern Miss versus Southeastern Louisiana: Southern Miss is reeling after a devestating 26-20 loss to Marshall in their conference opener. The Golden Eagles have not looked like their normal self with a -2 average score and not even putting up 20 points per game. The rushing game is only putting up 114 yards per game whle the passing game is getting 267.5 yards per game. Southeastern Louisiana played Conference USA team Tulane in week one and gave a nice effort but lost 47-33 to the Green Wave. It will be a difficult game for Southeastern Louisiana to compete in and should give Southern Miss a chance to get the offense on track. Southern Miss 55-14.
