Hilton shines in win over Louisville

Reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year T.Y. Hilton had a career high 201 on 7 catches with 2 touchdowns in a 24-17 win over Big East foe Louisville.

Hilton had both touchdowns on his first two catches with the first going for 74 yards and the second going for 83 yards. Wesley Carroll had 248 yards passing with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions for the Golden Panthers.

In the opening series for Louisville, quarterback Will Stein threw a pass that FIU defensive back Winston Fraser picked off and took 71 yards for a touchdown. The Cardinals were able to respond with a 2nd quarter field goal that brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Golden Panthers.

The T.Y. Hilton show then started with the star wide receiver scoring long touchdowns on back to back drives suddenly blooming a lead from 4 points to 18 points in a matter of minutes. Stein did not back down and drove the Cardinals for a 12-play 89 yard drive that culminated with a 6 yard touchdown pass to Michaelee Harris. The halftime score ended with FIU leading 21-10.

The second half started slowly with the only scoring in the 3rd quarter coming from a 29 yard field goal from kicker Jack Griffin extending the lead to 24-10 with 8:37 left in the 3rd.

Stein was able to find DeVante Parker for a 26 yard touchdown pass cutting the lead to 24-17 with 1:49 left in the game. The subsequent onside kick was unsuccessful allowing FIU to experience their first taste of success versus the Big East in 5 tries.
