Week 5 Preview: Miami OH versus Akron

Saturday, September 29
2:00 PM Miami (OH) at Akron:

This is a Mid American Conference matchup between the Miami OH RedHawks and the Akron Zips. Miami OH is 2-2 on the season behind an almost exclusive passing attack putting up 227 yards per game. The rushing attack is ranked in the bottom 5 nationally with only 93 yards rushing per game. The RedHawks are being outscored by nearly 13 points per game with their only wins coming versus FCS Southern Illinois and FBS newbie Massachusetts. The Akron Zips enter this game at 1-3 despite being competitive in 2 of their 4 losses. The Zips were within 4 points of Tennessee in the third quarter before a series of mistakes put the game away for the Vols. Akron is putting up wild numbers in the air with 340 yards per game passing led by quarterback Dalton Williams' 1233 yards and 10 passing touchdown. This is the 23rd meeting between the two schools with Miami OH holding a 16-5-1 overall series lead. If there is ever a year that sets up for Akron to win, this is the year. The RedHawks will struggle to stop the strong Akron passing game but perform better on offense than in some previous games. Akron pulls off the win. Akron 34-28.
