Week 6 Preview: Arkansas State versus Florida International

Thursday, October 4
7:30 PM Arkansas State at Florida International:

This is an inter-conference matchup between the Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Florida International Golden Panthers of the Sun Belt Conference. Arkansas State enters this game at 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Sun Belt. The Red Wolves are a spread team that relies on spreading the defense to make big gains in the running game. The Red Wolves are 15th nationally in rushing with 239 yards per game on the ground. Arkansas State is no slouch in the air either with 241 passing per game. The Red Wolves have 3 losses to teams that are a combined 13-2 on the year. Florida International were the preseason darlings of the Sun Belt with nearly every major publication picking the Golden Panthers to cruise to a Sun Belt crown. The Golden Panthers are currently sitting at 1-4 on the year with their lone win coming versus 1-4 Akron in overtime. To say the least, FIU has not lived up to expectations so far. The offense is putting up 25 points per game but their defense that was expected to be their strength is faltering to the tune of 38.6 points allowed per game. This is the 8th overall meeting between the two schools with Arkansas State holding a 5-2 edge in the all-time series. This is the type of game that sets up well for Arkansas State and is not a good matchup for FIU. Arkansas State should be able to spread the Golden Panther defense thin and gain yards all night long versus the FIU defense. Arkansas State 31-16.
