Week 6 Preview: Utah State versus BYU

Friday, October 5
10:15 PM Utah State at Brigham Young:
This is a matchup between Utah State of the Western Athletic Conference and FBS independent Brigham Young. Utah State enters this game at 4-1 with the only loss being a 16-14 loss to Big Ten power Wisconsin on the road. The Aggies put up 450 yards of total offense and rank 45th or better in both rushing and passing the ball. The Aggies score 28.2 points per game and have been held under 30 points only twice on the season. Utah State is excellent on defense holding 4 of 5 opponents to under 20 points with only Utah scoring exactly 20 points in Utah State's overtime win. Brigham Young enters this game at 3-2 with the two losses being coin-flip type games that could have easily been wins for the Cougars. The Cougars are struggling more than expected on offense not even putting up 400 yards per game but have found a way to score 29.8 points per game. Defense is where the Cougars excel with the 4th ranked scoring defense in the nation allowing only 10 points per game to opponents including holding 3 opponents to 7 or fewer points. This is the 82nd overall meeting between the two schools with BYU holding a 44-34-3 overall series lead over the Aggies. This is a game that will be low scoring and a strong defensive battle that will be settled in the 4th quarter. With BYU forced to rely on freshmen at both the quarterback and running back positions, this is the time for Utah State to pounce. The Aggies improve to 5-1 and get some major national respect. Utah State 17-13.
