Week 7 Preview: Akron versus Ohio

Saturday, October 13
2:00 PM Akron at Ohio:

This is a Mid American Conference matchup between the Akron Zips and the Ohio Bobcats. Akron enters this game at 1-5 despite having the 8th ranked passing offense in the nation. The Zips only have a 66-6 win over lowly Morgan State to show for the season. The biggest positive for the Zips is that they have played everyone on the schedule except for Central Florida very hard for 3 quarters. Akron was only down 4 at one point in the third quarter versus Tennessee. Ohio enters this game at 6-0 and the #2 ranked Non-AQ team behind Louisiana Tech. The Bobcats are outscoring their opponents by 14 points per game on the year but have played poorly in the last two weeks with a 3-point win over UMass and a 7-point win over Buffalo. While the rest of the schedule is very winnable, the Bobcats must get back to playing better football to avoid an upset. This is the 28th overall meeting between the two schools with Ohio hold a 15-11-1 overall series lead including wins in the last 4 matchups. The best thing you can say for the Zips heading into this game is that Ohio hasn't looked good lately and may struggle to stop the potent Akron passing attack. Ohio should win this rather easily but it could end up like last week in building up a lead and nearly giving it back up in the 4th quarter. Ohio 45-35.
