In an ode to old school scheduling, the Florida International Golden Panthers scheduled all 4 non-conference games in the first four weeks of the season. An opening trip to Maryland is a very winnable game with the Terrapins struggling in 2012 but a week 4 trip to Louisville will be very tough for FIU to pull out. The Golden Panthers get the home field advantage with their annual game versus UCF and host FCS foe Bethune-Cookman in a decent non-conference slate. The Golden Panther start off light with a trip to 2012 0-12 Southern Miss and a home game versus UAB before a make or break stretch of Louisiana Tech, ECU and MTSU with a home game versus high-scoring Marshall in late November.
