New Mexico State looks to rebound from a hugely disappointing 2012
season that quickly spiraled out of control after an opening night win over
Sacramento State. The Aggies lost their final 11 games with only one loss being
by fewer than 10 points. In addition to the horrible season, head coach DeWayne
Walker took off for an NFL job late in the recruiting period leaving newly
minted head coach Doug Martin to pick up the pieces. Martin inherits a team
that lost conference affiliation after the 2012 season and had to piece
together a 2012 schedule that involves 6 bowl teams from 2012 with trips to
Texas, UCLA, rival New Mexico, Louisiana, and Florida Atlantic. The Aggies get
Big 10 foe Minnesota at home as well as San Diego State, Abiline Christian,
Boston College, and Idaho. There is hope for the Aggie hopeful as Martin was
the offensive coordinator for the Aggies in 2011 when they were only 4-6 with 3
games remaining and had a real shot at a bowl game. A bounce back season of 3-9
or 4-8 would be a great starting point for the Aggies under the new coaching
staff.
