East:
The East division is completely up for grabs this fall with ECU being the top pick to represent the division in the Conference USA title game. MTSU and Marshall are also contenders for the division title with FAU, FIU, Southern Miss and UAB heading up the bottom half.

2012 Records:

  • ECU (8-5, 7-1)
  • FAU (3-9, 2-6)
  • FIU (3-9, 2-6)
  • Marshall (5-7, 4-4)
  • MTSU (8-4, 6-2)
  • Southern Miss (0-12, 0-8)
  • UAB (3-9, 2-6)
Overall division record: (30-55)

West:
The West division looks to be a race between Tulsa and Louisiana Tech with Tulsa holding the initial advantage. Rice is the dark horse of the division and could push either Tulsa or La. Tech for the division title with a weak overall schedule built for making a run. North Texas, Tulane, UTEP, and UTSA are not yet ready to make the jump to the level of either of the top teams of the division.

2012 Records:
  • Louisiana Tech (9-3, 4-2)
  • North Texas (4-8, 3-5)
  • Rice (7-6, 4-4)
  • Tulane (2-10, 2-6)
  • Tulsa (11-3, 7-1)
  • UTEP (3-9, 2-6)
  • UTSA (8-4, 3-3)
Overall division record: (44-43)

  • Overall Conference Record in 2012: (74-98)
  • Record of New Members: (35-37)

Overall, Conference USA became weaker with the loss of SMU, UCF, Memphis, and Houston to the Big East. There are 6 of 14 teams returning with .500 or higher records. This league could be open for nearly anyone to win but the east is wide open with only two east division members having winning records in 2012. Expect some exciting but sometimes not so great football from Conference USA in the fall.
