Week two of the college football season started with so much promise. So many G5 teams had a chance to pull off upsets and really shake up the college football world. Alas, things did not go according to plan with teams like Louisiana Tech, Boise State, and Western Kentucky all missing out on chances to beat P5 teams.
While the G5 missed out on those three marquee chances, there were still six instances of a G5 taking out a P5 program this week. MTSU beat Syracuse, San Diego State beat Arizona State, Central Michigan beat Kansas, UTSA beat Baylor, Houston beat Arizona, and Eastern Michigan beat Rutgers.
Three teams to watch after week two:
- UTSA (1-0, 0-0): The Roadrunners took out Baylor for their first win over a P5 program in school history. With La. Tech looking vulnerable, the door is open for UTSA to make a run at the west division title.
- Eastern Michigan (2-0, 0-0): Brogan Roback and company are picking up from last season’s success and hold a 2-0 record for the first time in… forever. Now is time to watch the Eagles as they have a brutal stretch of Ohio, Kentucky, Toledo, Army, and Western Michigan coming up.
- San Diego State (2-0, 0-0): The Aztecs have barely missed a beat with Penny as the feature back and are currently looking like the MWC champions once again. Getting by a reeling Stanford is possible and they could be looking at a 6-0 record when they face Boise State in October.
MACTION game of the week:
- Tulsa 66, Louisiana 43: Both teams proved in week one that they would rather put all their effort into offense. There were 109 total points scored, 1,263 total yards, 60 first downs, and a touchdown scored by Tulsa with :52 seconds left in the game with them leading by 17. That is just flat out cold blooded.
Three biggest disappointment of week three:
- Louisiana Tech: Everyone has beat to death the fumble that ended with a 3rd and 90+ yards to go. It’s hard to believe that the Bulldogs were up 9-0 at one point with a chance to extend that lead before the bottom fell out. Just flat out embarrassing.
- Georgia Southern: If Tyson Summers is the head coach of the Eagles in December, I will be stunned. They were flat out inept and worthless for a majority of the game versus New Hampshire, trailing 22-0 at one point. Luckily, the defense played well enough to give them some sort of shot at a comeback.
- Western Kentucky: We may have some problems in Bowling Green. Yes, Taylor, Norris, and Wales are gone to the NFL along with star lineman Forrest Lamp, but the Hilltoppers offense looked rough in the first two weeks of the season. Was Brohm that much of a difference maker or is this team just struggling to reload early and will be fine later in the season.

- Temple 16, Villanova 13.
- Florida International 17, Alcorn State 10
- Kent State 38, Howard 37
Worst G5 team in the nation:
- Georgia Southern

- Nick Stevens, Colorado State: 980 yards passing.
- Diocemy Saint Juste, Hawaii: 434 yards rushing.
- Darius Phillips, WMU: 43.6 yards per kickoff return.
- Frank Ginda, SJSU: 42 tackles.
- Anthony Winbush: 4.5 sacks.
